Missing Nylons During The War!

When Nylon stockings were introduced to the USA in 1939 up to 4 million pairs of stockings were bought each day.

During WWII DuPont stopped manufacturing these nylons to produce wartime materials.  After the war ‘twice as many women in Tulsa reported that they had missed nylons than those who had said they had missed men’.

After the war it took Du Pont several months to ramp up production to meet demand for nylon stockings.  In Pittsburgh, 40,000 women queued up for 13,000 pairs of stockings and when they realized that the supply would not meet their demands street fights broke out.
